Testimonials
Action Mats
“If you are looking for a consultant to advise on international markets in clear speak, from a position of vast experience in business and exporting, and from a thoroughly nice chap to-boot, then Steve Whitley is a good place to start.”

I have known Steve Whitley for perhaps five years, having first met him when he was Head of International at BESA. I recall we first started chatting over a pint after a long BESA day, and we ‘just got on’. Perhaps it’s because we’re both Yorkshiremen in exile, but it was refreshing to hear clarity and simplicity spoken, in a world that is sometimes full of jargon and acronyms.
I remember attending one of Steve’s webinars, during lockdown, about exporting (clearly optimistic that world markets would open up again!). I was very keen for Action Mats to start exporting from day 1 and I was keen to know more on an area I had no experience in. Hearing that it was Steve presenting the webinar made me very keen to sign up. I remember I learned a lot from it and there were points raised that still stick in my mind now.
Following the pint and the webinar, Steve and I kept in touch, driven by me admittedly but, kindly agreed to by Steve. I was keen to know more about his international experiences and, very magnanimously, Steve was interested in the development of Action Mats. He was a great sounding board and a sage advisor of strategy and knowledge.
Sometime later, we ended up at a table together at an awards ceremony in Dubai, over champagne this time, when he was representing one of his clients (who won) and fortunately Action Mats won too. Again, we talked, this time about the Middle East market, international schools, sales strategies and distributors.
Thanks to Steve’s experiences doing business around the world, there doesn’t seem to be a market that he hasn’t had experience in. Recently, for example, I was talking about Mexico (thinking this might be new to him) but no, Steve immediately recounted a story about an experience with a Mexican distributor.
So, in short, if you are looking for a consultant to advise on international markets in clear speak, from a position of vast experience in business and in exporting, and from a thoroughly nice chap to-boot, then Steve Whitley is a good place to start.

“I’ve had the pleasure to work with Steve on a number of occasions. Being asked to be an international ambassador for BESA is no mean feat.”

Steve has a natural affinity to put people at their ease when you meet him. Always interested in what the other person has to say, whilst offering positive advice, drawing-upon his extensive experience in the education sector.
I’ve had the pleasure to work with Steve on a number of occasions. Being asked to be an international ambassador for BESA is no mean feat. In this role, Steve led a delegation of EdTech professionals to Hungary, of which I was a part. His engagement with the British consulate and Hungarian representatives was extremely professional and helped facilitate the British delegation’s engagement with our hosts – reflecting his great ability to connect people.
Additionally, Steve provided commercialisation training to my Havering colleagues, working with 100+ local authority employees. The feedback from colleagues was extremely positive and helped to move our organisation forward – providing excellent insights from Steve’s years of engagement in U.K. and overseas’ education markets, whilst helping attendees to reflect on enhancing current provision and developing future growth.
Moreover, Steve just ‘gets it’ when it comes to the needs of teachers and schools. He has an ethical approach to working with schools and most importantly just wants the best for the kids. I look forward to working with him going forward.
Mr. Dave Smith, BESA
